MOSAIC work to protect and ensure the rights of LGBTIQ persons on National Regional and Local levels, including police stations, detention centers, workplaces, etc. Penal code 534 criminalizing homosexuality in Lebanon, virginity and forced anal tests in Lebanese police stations, arbitrary termination of work contracts on the basis of LGBTIQ status, hate speech and death threats among other homophobic actions call for urgent interventions to restore LGBTIQ rights through policy reform and legal aid for persons with similar situations. Our Services target mainly low-income LGBTIQ, LGBTIQ persons in detention, migrants, and refugees, among other vulnerable groups.
Cases of severe marginalization and/or life threatening situations that cannot be handled locally due to legal policies in Lebanon are followed up by our Senior Social Worker and referred to the UNHCR offices in Lebanon in order to ensure proper protection and wellbeing.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
MOSAIC work to establish sustainable support systems for LGBTIQ persons, through round-the-clock helpline and trained social workers who will help members of the community better deal with rejection at home, discrimination at the workplace, segregation in society, among other problems commonly faced by LGBTIQ persons. In addition to that, MOSAIC helps families with LGBTIQ persons understand and respect the sexual orientations and gender identities of their relatives.
MOSAIC conducts Drama and Art Therapy sessions by qualified specialists to provide psychological consultation and support for LGBTI individuals, survivors or at risk of violence. In addition to that qualified teachers in life skills training provide tailored sessions for LGBTIQ survivors or at risk of violence.
A SUSTAINABLE SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR LGBTIQ.
We primarily address the lack of access to sensitive mental health and legal services for LGBTIQ persons. We also seek to create sustainable support system for LGBTIQ persons facing social problems, not necessarily directly triggered by their LGBTIQ status.
As human rights defenders, we offer our space to NGOs or individuals who are in need of a location to conduct their human rights activities/trainings/ protection services.
Through its national presence, MOSAIC provides sensitive mental health services for LGBTIQ persons in Lebanon. These services are available for, but are not limited to, all individuals striving to define and accept their sexual orientations, LGBTIQ persons facing difficulties because of their gender identities or for any other reason.
